Controversial World Cup star Luis Suarez has hinted that he will have to leave Ajax if Premier League giants Manchester United come calling. The 23 year old, who misses his country’s vital semifinal with Spain, thanks to his handball against Ghana in the quarter final, has scored an extremely impressive 49 goals in 48 games for the Dutch giants.
Suarez said that despite being happy at Ajax, he believed that an offer from Manchester United would be too good to refuse. Speaking about the elite clubs of Barcelona and Manchester United, the Uruguayan said, “If they call, you listen. I would only leave Ajax for a team in that category.”
Sir Alex Ferguson’s plate is loaded with options in attack at the moment, with Wayne Rooney, Dimitar Berbatov, Michael Owen, Federico Macheda and new boy Javier Hernandez all vying for places at the Theatre of Dreams. Not only Suarez, but fellow South American striker Luis Fabiano has staked a claim to play for United.
I think the only way Sir Alex will sign Suarez is if he is prepared to sell Dimitar Berbatov. At recent times of adversity, the Manchester United manager has stuck by his misfiring forward. However, he has given Berbatov enough chances to prove himself and the Bulgarian hasn’t cut the grade at Old Trafford. If Berbatov is sold this summer, expect Suarez to be swiftly drafted in. All Manchester United fans will hope that he doesn’t follow his Uruguayan friend Diego Forlan in arriving and producing a dismal 10 goals in 63 first team appearances, like “Diego Forlorn” did.
If Suarez doesn’t go to Old Trafford, then Ferguson will not purchase Fabiano. Fabiano is closing in on 30 and as illustrated in the past, Sir Alex likes to buy youthful players and mould them into greatness e.g. Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney. Ferguson looks like he isn’t interested in Suarez, but you never know, he might be hiding all the negotiations under that chewing face of his and we might see something happen once the World Cup is over.
